Chuck &
Joanna Landau established the concept of "Starvin
Marvin's Peetza Joynt" in November of 1997.
The original business was located on the same
corner of 4th & Jefferson in downtown Waterloo,
Iowa. The brick building, built in 1903, sat only
50, and was destroyed by one of the largest fires
in the history of downtown Waterloo on June 4th
of 1999. Desiring to rebuild their dream, Chuck
and Joanna were able to purchase the land and
construct a 6,000 square foot building, which
re-opened on October 18th of 2000 under the new
name of "Doughy Joey's Peetza Joynt".
(Changed to nationally recognized trademark).
Seating approximately 150 with a party room holding
up to 50, Doughy Joey's has an environment unique
only to itself. The ceilings climb to a height
of 24 feet with mezzanine seating over looking
the lower level. The open kitchen design resembles
that of the previous restaurant and adds to the
enjoyable atmosphere as patrons can watch the
experienced 'Peetza' makers create each delicious
masterpiece. Cartoon Network populates most of
the ten televisions located at every visual angle
around the restaurant. The restaurant also features
a "drawing wall" with rolled butcher
paper for kids of all ages to create their own
personal works of art. Other unique amenities
of this restaurant include stained concrete floors,
city skylines, and the 10-foot steel "Peetza"
slice; The atmosphere is only one of the attractions,
The 'big-city' taste of Chicago and New York style
Peetza is what brings customers back! Using only
quality ingredients, everything is prepared daily
for complete freshness. The recipes come from
a family tradition that is sure to place our "Peetza"
as one at the top of everyone's list.
